i'm on vacation!

Will check back to see what the guest bloggers are doin' with ma' space ... occasionally. (Plus I'm totally curious.) Hopefully they won't totally outshine me 'cause after July 31st they're cut off and your stuck with me again.

I'll miss you.

Have a great July. :)

(I know, you're thinking, "Just as she got us involved in her high quality video experiments, she chooses to leave. Some people." So here's a wave from me. :P And no, I haven't figured out the whole frame/sound problem yet... things are still a bit weird. And I look psycho because of the lighting, not my personality. Really. Be nice. ;))

should i sell out to the man? (i'm thinking no)

I was recently contacted by a PR firm to participate in a little viral marketing campaign they have launched. Basically it's a contest that goes with their client's slogan and they are using user-generated videos.

The e-mail I received was crafted pretty carefully and the sender mentioned some specific posts that I have made on this blog, which was flattering (although I was a bit skeptical about its sincerity). He noted the amount of videos I post and thought I might want to post some of the contest videos here. I'm sure they've sent out these e-mails to a ton of different bloggers. (I can see the template now: refer to specific posts, refer to posting behaviour, say something about your own activities that make them relate to you.)

I find the notion of user-generated video advertising really appealing despite the whole "rich companies getting something for free" thing... The reason is that I think that the people who submit entries into this kind of contest are often very creative and they get to "show the world". I often love what they produce.

It's weird timing since lately most of my (work related) writing has been about the ways that companies attempt to participate in the social web.

Do I check out the videos? What do you think? What if some of the videos are really really funny? Should I ask for reciprocation? (I'll post some of the videos if you promote my little blog? ;) Or maybe I can ask for those much coveted shoes?) I think it feels weird because I have never been approached to post content before. And the blog is mine, not an advertising forum for others (although I'm sure I advertise for others in indirect ways.)

Here’s an advertisement from a completely different company. (I may have posted this before, but I find it hilarious.)

**All of this week's posts will be lazy posts. That is, other people's stuff. Unless I feel extraordinarily inspired.**

Did I mention that I'm on vacation? (Said in a slightly smug and self-satisfied voice)

improv everywhere: spontaneous musical

From the fabulous improv everywhere:

"For our latest mission, 16 agents staged a spontaneous musical in the food court of a Los Angeles shopping mall. We used wireless microphones to amplify the vocal performances and mix them together with the music through the mall’s PA system. We filmed the mission with hidden cameras, mostly behind two-way mirrors. Apart from our performers, no one in the food court was aware of what was happening. Enjoy the video first and then go behind the scenes with our report below."

This goes a long way in explaining why I dislike musicals. The resemblance is very similar to real musicals (in my opinion).

call for a guest blogger!

OK sweethearts. I'm going on vacation for a few weeks and am hoping to neglect my blog. Wanna say something here? I can make it happen.

You can post something you'd *never* normally say on your own blog or in real life for that matter. Or you can write a blog entry for the very first time? Let me know if you are interested.

Write me a note. I'll make it happen. Oh. And you can be anonymous if you want to.
